"I adore the coiled power in this savoury, dark-fruited Hunter Valley gem sourced from the mature vines of the Homestead vineyard. Licorice, clove and liqueur plums are corseted by appropriate amounts of acid and tannin. There are fragrant accents of vanilla and a gorgeous sweet-sour black cherry character on the close. This is a classical wine to sit with, ponder and savour, with a palate defined by acidity rather than sweet fruit. If you can resist drinking it now, it will age beautifully." Toni Paterson MW

Background

This wine is named after three pioneer women of the Hunter Valley, who established the initial homestead on ‘Meerea’ in the 1830’s. The three women were referred to by the family as the ‘Aunts’. The establishment of the homestead coincided with the planting of the first Shiraz in the Hunter Valley.

Vintage Notes

With a return to more normal Hunter Valley vintage conditions, 2022 has produced exceptional white grapes and very good reds. Shiraz overall will be medium-bodied and classic Hunter in style. Great acid balance will give the wines longevity in the cellar.

Vineyard Notes

This single vineyard wine is made from fruit off the low yielding, mature ’Homestead’ vineyard in Pokolbin.

Winemaking

The handpicked Shiraz grapes were fermented in open vats and then transferred into 100% French Hogsheads. 35% of the oak was new.

Tasting Notes

Bright crimson in colour. The nose shows red berry fruit aromas, plums and mild French oak nuances. The palate is medium-bodied, has supple and fine tannins and a lovely balance and finish.

Peak Drinking / Cellaring Potential

Medium term.

Food Matches
