INDIE’ is a label used for non mainstream or ‘out there’ varieties and blends from the Hunter Valley. Marsanne and Roussanne both originate and flourish in France’s Rhone Valley but also do exceptionally well in the Hunter Valley.

Marsanne and Roussanne both excelled in the warm and dry 2023 vintage, conditions typical of France’s Rhone Valley. Hand-picking allowed more controlled berry selection in the vineyard.

Both the Marsanne and Roussanne are grown on the Kindred family’s, 1973 planted ‘Lochleven’ Estate on Deasys Road. The Roussanne a more recent addition in 2012, being grafted on to Semillon rootstock.

Rich Marsanne provides the aromatics and power to this blend and the Roussanne the acid backbone for structure. There are Quince and Apple Pie aromas with a hint of spice. The medium-bodied palate has canned pear characters, stone-fruits and well judged acidity.
