Alexander Munro was winemaker Rhys Eather’s great-great-grandfather and these true reserve wines are released only in years that reflect the status of the label. The best Semillon parcel harvested is selected each year to make this wine.
Rated as a 9/10 Semillon vintage, 2019 was the third consecutive drought vintage in the Hunter Valley, without the extreme temperatures of 2017 and 2018. All grapes harvested were ripe and clean, and of exceptional quality.
Situated along the Hermitage Road sand flat in Pokolbin, the ‘Braemore’ vineyard is the fruit source for the 2019 vintage release. The mature vines are dry-land grown and produced a yield of 1.5 tonnes per acre.
A very youthful colour in appearance but already showing toast, wax and lanolin aromas on the nose. The palate is flavoursome exhibiting lemon butter characters with nicely balanced acidity and incredible length of flavour.
Although beginning to drink well, this wine has all the hallmarks that are required for long term cellaring. 20+ years.
Pan grilled fish.
