Cabernet Sauvignon isn't considered a mainstream Hunter Valley variety despite one very notable producer. Our decision to release a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Hunter Valley is a year-by-year proposition.

Cabernet from the ‘Lochleven’ Vineyard is very low cropping which helped it weather (pun intended) the 2022 vintage rains. A great outcome given the circumstances.

Planted in 1973, ‘Lochleven’ Estate, positioned on the corner of Deasys and McDonalds Roads in Pokolbin was the sole vineyard used for this wine.

Fermentation was undertaken in open vats with plunging and pumping over done daily. Maturation was for 15 months in 20% new French oak Hogsheads. The other 80% oak used was 1—3 years old French oak Hogsheads.

A deep crimson in colour showing black currants and black cherries on the nose and palate. There are nuances of mint and chocolate too. A lovely balanced wine with wonderful length of flavour. 130 dozen made.
