Background

The name Pokolbin as legend has it, is derived from the early Hungarian migrant settlers to the area. ‘Pokol’ directly translates to ‘Hell’, and ‘bin’ to ‘in’. An undeniable reference to the hot, dry and sometimes inhospitable summers that regularly top 45º C during Pokolbin summers.

Vintage Notes

2023 from the start was impressive. Lower than average crops, a consistent ripening period and event free harvest window produced exceptional quality Shiraz fruit. Fantastic colour and flavour across the board.

Vineyard Notes

Old-vine Shiraz from the 1960’s planted ’Homestead’ vineyard owned by the Kindred family situated on Palmers Lane in Pokolbin.

Tasting Notes

Deep crimson colour, with dark berry fruit characters on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied+, with spicy plum and black cherry flavours. A sturdy Hunter Valley Shiraz with impeccable balance and length of flavour.

Peak Drinking / Cellaring Potential

Long term. 20+ years.

Food Matches
