The ‘XYZ’ brand wines constitute modern styles of Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz. New Generation wines from the Hunter Valley.
Grapes used to make this Semillon was sourced from the old-vine vine ‘Lochleven’ vineyard in Pokolbin. The block was planted in 1973.
Standard fermentation in stainless-steel with no malolactic fermentation allowed.
2017 was a return to warm and dry Hunter Valley vintage conditions. Sunny dry days in January and very hot days in February set the scene for ripe flavoursome grapes of all varieties. Instead of disease pressure to harvest, we encountered the danger of over-ripening instead.
Light straw colour, almost with a green tinge. There is a lemon butter nose with lemon sherbet like aromas. The palate is flavoursome but kept fresh with pitch perfect acidity and typical lemon/lime/citrus flavours. It has great line and length.
