Meerea Park turned 20 in 2011. We made the BLACK Shiraz as a mark of that and also popped the Brute Cuvee away for future release. We have included this under the indie label, as lets face it, Sparkling Wine from the Hunter Valley is far from mainstream!!
Chardonnay, from vines planted in 1973 was harvested at 10 baume from the 'Lochleven' Estate in Pokolbin.
2011 ended up a great Hunter Valley vintage after a very wet end to 2010. Semillon and Chardonnay fared very well in the cooler conditions which helped them retain great levels of natural acid. Rhys made the base wine, with Peterson House completing the process using the Traditional bottle fermented method.
A mid-straw colour with a very tiny bead. Melon, cashew and biscuit aromas are pronounced on the nose. Yeast autolysis gives it a lovely flavoursome palate that is kept fresh by balanced acidity. Excellent length of flavour.
Drinking very well now, however will continue to evolve and gain complexity in the medium term.
As an aperitif or with fresh oysters and seafood.
