Hunter Valley, NSW
100% Hunter Valley Roussanne from the 'Lochleven' vineyard in Pokolbin.
10 months in French oak Hogsheads.
‘indie’ is a label used for non mainstream or ‘out there’ varieties and blends from the Hunter Valley. Roussanne gets its name from the russet coloured berries when they are ripe.
The white wines from 2019 have shaped up superbly, a bit 2014esque. Rich and opulent flavours with balanced alcohol and acidity provide great enjoyment while young, but will also improve with some cellar ageing.
3 acres of Roussanne was grafted onto Semillon rootstock in the ‘Lochleven’ vineyard during 2012. 2019 was the second vintage with enough yield to make a varietal Roussanne, plus the Marsanne Roussanne blend.
An exotic nose of pear, nectarine and assorted stone-fruits, with nuances of cinnamon and dried herbs. The palate has a soft and gentle texture, but is flavoursome and has formidable length. Fine but balanced acidity keeps flavours fresh and lively.
