Hunter Valley, NSW
An individual vineyard, old-vine Cabernet Sauvignon matured in French Oak from the 'Lochleven' Vineyard in Pokolbin.
Cabernet Sauvignon isn't considered a mainstream Hunter Valley variety despite one very notable producer. Our decision to release a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Hunter Valley was spurred on by the outstanding 2018 vintage, particularly for red wines.
Extremely low crops were the result of the earlier two drought years. This meant well flavoured grapes with great colour. There was little or no rain to hamper vintage proceedings.
Planted in 1973, ‘Lochleven’ Estate, positioned on the corner of Deasys and McDonalds Roads in Pokolbin was the sole vineyard used for this wine.
A deep crimson in colour showing black currants and black cherries on the nose and palate. There are nuances of mint and chocolate too. A lovely balanced wine with wonderful length of flavour. 114 dozen made.
Medium term. 10+ years.
Lamb and red meat cuisine.
