The best parcel of Semillon grapes each vintage are reserved for the ‘Alexander Munro’ label. In 2018, sourced off neighboring vineyards, we received two parcels very worthy of the classification. Consequently, we have decided to bottle the second parcel as a reserve wine and release as young wine.
Situated along the Hermitage Road sand flat in Pokolbin, the ‘Casuarina’ vineyard is the fruit source for the inaugural release. The mature vines are dry-land grown and in 2018 were very lowly cropped.
The hand harvested fruit was crushed and then fermented in stainless steel. No maturation was undertaken prior to bottling in December 2018.
2018 whilst being hot and dry, didn't have the extreme heat days of 2017, resulting in a more even fruit ripening. Quality is high across all varieties, but yields were correspondingly lower.
Lemon butter and lemon zest aromatics are combined with gentle citrus fruits on the palate. Zesty acid lifts and freshens the palate, also giving the palate length and focus.
