Alexander Munro was winemaker Rhys Eather’s great-great-grandfather and these true reserve wines are released only in years that reflect the status of the label. The best Semillon parcel harvested is selected each year to make this wine.
Vineyard Notes
Situated along the Hermitage Road sand flat in Pokolbin, the ‘Braemore’ vineyard is the fruit source for the 2014 vintage release. The mature vines are dry-land grown and produced a yield of 2.0 tonnes per acre.
Winemaking
2014 was a magic vintage with fantastic harvest and growing seasons. Pitch perfect ripeness and nil disease issues guaranteed sensational wines, both red and white. The hand harvested fruit was crushed and then fermented in stainless steel. The wine was bottled under screwcap in August 2014 and was cellared for 6 years prior to release in early 2020.
Tasting Notes
Classic Semillon aromas of lemon sherbert but is beginning its transition into secondary characters of toast and lanolin. The palate has great flavour across the Semillon spectrum but kept focused with balanced acid. Great length of flavour.
Peak Drinking / Cellaring Potential
Although drinking well now, this wine has all the hallmarks that are required for long term cellaring. 20+ years.
