2014-Off---Dry-Semillon---TN[1]Wine Notes

Region:Hunter Valley

Alcohol: 10.0%

Background: Meerea Park has dabbled in Late Harvest (sweet or semi-sweet) wines over the years, as it is not a focus of the brand. Sweet wines have been made from Traminer, Viognier and now Semillon.

Fruit source: The ‘Lochleven’ vineyard situated on Deasy’s Road in Pokolbin.

Fermentation: After harvest, the fruit made a very short journey to the winery where it was fermented in Stainless Steel. Fermentation was stopped at 10% alc with the balance of sugar left as residual.

Maturation: No maturation was undertaken.

Winemaker’s comments: 2014 was an outstanding vintage for the Hunter Valley that allowed us to make almost any style of wine. Perfect ripeness and acid balance were the key.

Tasting note: The Semillon fruit has taken on characters of sweet apples on both the nose and palate. A flavoursome wine with a mid level of sweetness and refreshing racy acidity that keeps the wine balanced and fresh.

Cellaring estimate: Drink now to 2018.

Suggested food match: Spicy Asian inspired cuisine.
