Chardonnay

Meerea Park’s first wine release was a Chardonnay from the 1991 vintage and has been producing one continuously since. Although ‘XYZ’ and ‘Alexander Munro’ Chardonnays are always Hunter Valley, Orange is a great alternative to make our ‘Vintner’ range Chardonnay from.

2013-char-large[1]Wine Notes

Region: Orange

Alcohol: 13%

Background: Meerea Park’s first wine release was a Chardonnay from the 1991 vintage and has been producing one continuously since. Although ‘XYZ’ and ‘Alexander Munro’ Chardonnays are always Hunter Valley, Orange is a great alternative to make our ‘Vintner’ range wine from.

Fruit source: Two mature vineyards, both located in the cool-climate Orange region.

Fermentation: Both parcels of fruit were crushed as soon as possible after harvest with 60% barrel fermented, the balance in stainless steel tanks.

Maturation: The barrel fermented portion was matured for 4 months. 10% new oak was used.

Winemaker’s comments: 2014 was another wonderful vintage in the cool-climate and emerging wine region, Orange in New South Wales. Warm and reasonably dry growing and ripening seasons caused no major concerns to grape quality.

Tasting notes: Stone-fruit aromas, particularly Nectarines dominate the nose, as well as subtle spicy oak characters. The full flavoured palate tastes of yellow and white peach fruit characters. There is great persistence of flavour with lovely soft integrated acidity to keep it fresh.

Cellaring estimate: Drink now to 2018.

Suggested food match: Fresh and cooked seafood dishes, or simply on its own!
