Semillon is traditionally the first fruit harvested in the Hunter Valley each year for still wine production. For Meerea Park, this signals the commencement of each vintage and this is our 'epoch'. Fruit Source:This premium wine is crafted from Semillon sourced from the Howard family's "Somerset" vineyard in Pokolbin. The Semillon block was planted in 1968. Fermentation & Maturation:The handpicked fruit was cold fermented entirely in stainless steel then bottled under Stelvin to capture the varietal freshness of this variety. Winemakers Comments:The 2006 vintage for Semillon in the Hunter was very similar to the 2005 vintage in many ways. Very warm days in early January and a rain free harvest period ensured ripe clean fruit with low baume and pH. Trademark aromas of lemon and lime on the nose. The palate is lean, dry and long with citrus and apple flavours Further bottle maturation will only be of benefit to this wine. Cellaring:7-10 years What the experts say
"Aromas of lemon/lime, green banana, hay, spice and something like flowering basil. On the palate crunchingly fresh and zesty with lemon/lime fruit and slightly grassy flavours. Flinty and bone dry. Lean but very intense. Long citrussy mouthwatering finish. You can drink it now if you are so inclined but just remember that patience is a virtue and good things come to those who wait…then again if the weather turns unexpectedly warm and you have seafood to hand… just stuff all that….and break seal in case of emergency". Rated : 95 Points.
Gary Walsh - Winorama - August 2006
"I haven't got the price in front of me but I suspect that it's ridiculously cheap - for the outstanding quality of it. Apples, lemons, rose petals, a long dry structured palate - it's all in mighty fine shape. Outstanding wine". Drink: 2006-2012. 93 points.
Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front - September 2006
"A delicious, fresh, tangy seafood dry white for drinking now or keeping up to four years. Typical of the Hunter Valley. Creamy straw-like aromas; baked lemon-pudding flavours. Good acidity, lively and dry, yet soft and smooth in the mouth. Well-made. 91 / 100.
Huon Hooke – SMH – Good Living 9/1/2007
“Spotlessly clean; tightly wound, but crisp and balanced, with very good length; notes of grass and spice are very different to the ‘05, but do not suffer in comparison”. Rating 93. To 2017.
