Back to winesView a PDF of this page2000 'Alexander Munro' Chardonnay Wine Notes Wine NotesBackground:Alexander Munro is winemaker, Rhys Eather's great-great-grandfather and these true reserve wines are released only in years that reflect the status of the label. Fruit Source:A single low cropping, old vine Chardonnay vineyard in Pokolbin. Winemaking:The fruit was hand picked and then whole bunch pressed. The free run juice was settled then racked to 100% new Centre of France oak barriques where natural yeast carried out the fermentation. Malo-lactic fermentation was allowed to occur naturally in all barrels with lees stirring being conducted regularly. After 12 months in oak, the wine was transferred into stainless steel for bottling preparation. This wine was only cold stabilized and minimal fining carried out prior to bottling. Winemakers notes:2000 in the Hunter was cool and to many perfect conditions which allowed the fruit to ripen slowly and to optimum natural ripeness, while retaining good natural acids. A complex style of Chardonnay showing rich pear-melon fruit supported by subtle lees and oak. The palate has wonderful texture and complexity with a long finish. The acidity of the wine provides the palate with structure and the ability to age over the medium term. Awards:TROPHY – 2000 Hunter Valley Wine Show
