Back to winesView a PDF of this page2009 'XYZ' Semillon Wine Notes Wine NotesRegion: Hunter Valley Alcohol: 11.0% Background: The XYZ brand wines constitute modern styles of the Hunter staples of Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz. New Generation wines. Fruit source: Fruit for this wine is from the Howard family’s 1968 planted old-vine semillon vineyard in Pokolbin. Fermentation: The handpicked fruit was fermented entirely in stainless steel then bottled under screwcap to capture the varietal freshness of this variety. Maturation: No maturation or oak treatment was undertaken prior to bottling in September 2009. Winemaker’s comments: 2009 began warm and provided ideal ripening conditions for the vines. Semillon, as always performed very well producing highly flavoured wines of similar style to the acclaimed 2005 vintage. Tasting notes: Pale straw in colour with a tinge of green. The nose shows lemon/citrus and the palate has flavours of ripe lemon and spice. Fruit and acid are in balance allowing this to be consumed now and for many years to come. Cellaring estimate: Medium—Long term. Suggested food match: Fresh seafood or as an aperitif. What the experts say"Pale crystal green; a tightly folded single vineyard wine, without the usual flamboyant fruit characters of '09; however, will grow with bottle age."
