New Generation wines. Fruit source: Fruit for this wine is from a mature Chardonnay vineyard within the Broke-Fordwich sub-region of the Hunter Valley. Fermentation: The fruit was whole bunch pressed and then barrel fermented with no malolactic fermentation allowed. Maturation: 100% French oak ranging from one year-old to three years-old for seven months. Winemaker’s comments: 2009 began warm and provided ideal ripening conditions for the vines. Chardonnay which ripened quite early in 2009 due to the conditions really benefited from this and the Hunter Chardonnay vintage was a very good one overall. Tasting notes: A restrained nose of white peach and rock melon with subtle spicy oak. The palate has stone-fruit flavours, well managed oak and precise acidity. Cellaring estimate: Short term. Suggested food match: Fuller flavoured seafood, chicken and pasta cuisine. What the experts say“Here we are in 2009 and here is an oaked chardonnay from the 2009 vintage – the fresh new way of Australian chardonnay. It’s a gorgeous wine too. It tastes of pears and melons, oak-spice and toast. Most particularly though it has both deliciousness and persistence all wrapped up. Searing acidity but a wealth of flavour to carry it. Beautiful”. Rated : 94. Campbell Mattinson—The Winefront—8/12/09 "Bright yellow-green; touches of smoky/funky characters (borrowed from Burgundy, perchance) lift the nectarine, fig and cashew characters of the palate; 250 cases made."
