2010 Verdelho Wine Notes

2010 Verdelho

Wine Notes

Region: Hunter Valley (100%)

Alcohol: 12.5%

Background: Meerea Park’s first Verdelho release, a single vineyard wine, was in 1997 from the ‘Lindsay Hill’ vineyard located at Denman. This entry level Verdelho was added to the range in 2006, the same year the ‘Lindsay Hill’ label was discontinued.

Fruit source: Vineyards in Pokolbin.

Fermentation: Fruit is crushed as soon as possible after harvest and cold settled before fermenting in stainless steel tanks.

Maturation: No maturation or oak treatment was undertaken before bottling in May 2010.

Winemaker’s comments: Much like 2009, the 2010 vintage started out very warm which ripened the white varieties quite early and generally allowed their harvest before any significant rain events. Rain in mid February caused some concerns with the Shiraz harvest for later ripening vineyards but the quality of the 2010 vintage overall is very good.

Tasting note: The nose is highly aromatic and features fruit salad and pineapple characters. The palate replicates the nose and has a nice line of acidity keeping the wine fresh and lively. A hint of residual sweetness balances the acidity perfectly for a refreshing drink now wine.

Cellaring estimate: Drink now.

Suggested food match: Asian cuisine, will handle spicy foods well.

Other vintages:   2009    2008    2007

"Today, Meerea Park's wines are some of the finest in the region, in fact the whites are some of the best of their type in the country".

Tim White - Australian Financial Review - 14th August 2009

"Delicious green-gold colour. Perfect mix of primary and secondary flavours. Hay, lanolin, lemon zest and lime. Great complexity. Great freshness. Length is good. The marvel of good Hunter Valley semillon? This is an example."Rated : 93 Points
