Region: Hunter Valley
Background: Meerea Park’s first Verdelho release, a single vineyard wine, was in 1997 from the ‘Lindsay Hill’ vineyard. This entry level Verdelho was added to the range in 2006, the same year the ‘Lindsay Hill’ was discontinued.
Fruit Source: Vineyards in the Upper Hunter and Pokolbin.
Fermentation & Maturation: Fruit is crushed as soon as possible and cold settled before fermenting in stainless steel tanks. No maturation or oak treatment is undertaken before bottling.
Winemakers Comments: 2008 was a disaster for Hunter Valley red wines but has produced fantastic whites, including this Verdelho. Verdelho was ripe quite early and missed the majority of the vintage rain providing good clean fruit with flavour aplenty.
The nose is a combination of ripe tropical fruits which are also prominent on the palate. An acid backbone keeps the wine fresh and lively. A hint of sweetness balances the acidity perfectly for a wonderful refreshing drink.
Cellaring: Short term.
