Vintage 2008

14 Apr 2008

2008 will unfortunately only be remembered as a white wine vintage of any note in the Hunter Valley. Excessive rainfall and low daytime temperatures caused the Shiraz vines to struggle to ripen the fruit. As a result we will not release any 'Alexander Munro', 'Hell Hole', 'Terracotta' or 'The Aunts' Shiraz from 2008, but are confident of releasing a worthy Shiraz Viognier.

On the other hand, the whites look very good with the first release, the 2008 'Hell Hole' Semillon due out on the 1st May.

"Meerea Park have gone further than perhaps anyone in making the most of the region's old vineyards, and turning them into ultra-traditional Hunter wine styles."

Max Allen - The future makers (Australian wines for the 21st century)

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2009 The Aunts Shiraz reveals pronounced scents of freshly crushed blackberries, green peppercorns, Mediterranean herbs, tree bark and underbrush. Medium-bodied with very crisp acid and medium-firm fine grained tannins, it has just enough flesh and a long tangy finish. Though approachable now, it should soften and open with another year in bottle, drinking 2012 through 2017+. 91.
